US citizens do not need a visa to visit Argentina as tourists for up to 90 days, and the old reciprocity fee was abolished in 2016. There are nonstop flights to Buenos Aires from Miami, Atlanta, Houston and, in season, New York and Dallas. From Buenos Aires, Salta is a flight of a little over two hours.

No. The Argentine consulates in the US say US citizens do not need a visa for tourism or transit stays of up to 90 days. Your passport should be valid for your whole trip. The reciprocity fee that US visitors used to pay was abolished in 2016.
Get travel insurance with medical cover. A 2025 decree made health insurance a requirement for foreign visitors entering Argentina, and public hospitals may charge visitors who have none. Check the current rule with Argentina's immigration office (Migraciones) before you fly.
Miami (American, Aerolíneas Argentinas and LATAM), Atlanta (Delta) and Houston (United) fly nonstop to Buenos Aires Ezeiza all year. New York JFK and Dallas have seasonal nonstops. Most flights leave the US in the evening and land in Buenos Aires the next morning. Schedules change, so check with the airline.
Most flights to Salta leave from Aeroparque (AEP), the city airport, not from Ezeiza, where international flights land. The two airports are about 45 km apart, 40 to 60 minutes by road without traffic. If you connect on the same day, leave plenty of time, or spend a night or two in Buenos Aires first. Read our full guide to getting from Buenos Aires to Salta.
Argentina is on UTC−3 all year, with no daylight saving time. Pablo answers emails at any hour, so you can plan from home.
