Questions
Frequently asked questions
Everything travellers usually ask before booking a private trip in Salta and Jujuy with Pablo. Anything else, ask him on WhatsApp.
Is the price per person or per group?
Per group. Every trip is private, and the price is the total for 1 to 4 travellers: two people pay the same as four. For groups of five or more, message Pablo.
What is included, and what do I pay separately?
The price covers Pablo as your private guide and driver, private transport in a 4x4 pickup and pickup at your hotel or Salta airport. Hotels, meals, drinks, tastings and entrance tickets are paid separately.
Where do the trips start and end?
In the city of Salta. Pablo picks you up at your hotel or at Salta airport and drops you off there at the end.
Can I change the itinerary?
Yes. Every trip can be adjusted: skip places you have already seen, add a night, slow down or focus on food, hiking or photography. Tailor-made trips have run from 3 to 13 days.
How high do the trips go?
The Cuesta de Lipán reaches 4,170 m and the Abra del Acay on Route 40 reaches 4,895 m. Most of the time is spent driving, with short walks. Drink water, take it easy on the first day up high and tell Pablo how you feel. If you have heart or lung conditions, check with your doctor before travelling to high altitude.
When is the best time to go?
The Northwest can be visited all year. December to March is the rainy season: the valleys are green and the storms are dramatic, but rain can cut mountain roads, so Pablo keeps a backup plan. April to November is dry, with clear skies and cold nights in the highlands.
Which languages does Pablo speak?
English and Spanish. Reviewers often mention his fluent, colloquial English.
Is Pablo a licensed guide?
Yes. He is a tour guide accredited by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Province of Salta, with first aid training and a professional driving licence.
Can families, older travellers or wheelchair users come?
Yes. Pablo has guided families with teenagers and travellers in wheelchairs. The activity level is light: tell him in advance about mobility or dietary needs and he plans around them.
What vehicle do we travel in?
A Toyota Hilux 4x4 pickup or equivalent. Some sections, like the road to San Antonio de los Cobres and the Cuesta del Obispo, are gravel.
